Dorchester is Boston’s largest neighborhood and also its oldest, founded just before the city itself. The neighborhood’s historical diversity is shown through its architecture, from the old Victorian homes to the multi-families.
Today, Dorchester retains its diversity and is among Boston’s most popular destinations. Especially in recent years, Dorchester is often ranked as one of the hottest neighborhoods with many restaurants, shops and residential developments being erected across the city. Its main thoroughfare, Dorchester Avenue, connects many different neighborhoods and commercial districts. Some of its well known neighborhoods are Savin Hill, Wellesley Park, Jones Hill, Ashmont and Lower Mills. Dorchester is also home to the University of Massachusetts at Boston and the John F. Kennedy Library.
