Mattapan is a community that was first started back in the 1600’s by Native Americans called the Mattahunt Tribe. Today, Mattapan has become an even more popular neighborhood of Boston with many services and resources for every resident including the Boys and Girls Teen Center with many programs for area children. The area is primarily residential with a mix of apartment buildings, single-family homes and many three-family homes often referred to as “Three deckers” of “Triple deckers.”
Green living has been a focus in Mattapan starting with a branch of the Boston Public Library that was created with a pursuit of energy performance, water conservation and sustainability. Other efforts include a relationship with The Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary offering resident programs as well as numerous green spaces designed to enhance the quality of life of its residents. Residents enjoy weekend farmers markets, fresh eating courses and fitness campaigns.
